Cycle the banks of the Tagus River, and discover the UNESCO World Heritage monuments of Belém on an electric bike tour of Lisbon. Meet your guide at a central meeting point for a short briefing on how the bikes work. Then, glide off towards the renovated Ribeira Market, where you will find an abundance of traditional stalls selling fish, fruit, vegetables, and flowers. A separate area features more than 30 restaurants where you can taste food recommended by highly regarded chefs. Next, bike down the former red light district of the Rua Nova de Carvalho (also known as “Pink Street”), famous for its animated nightlife, and recently named by the New York Times as one of the best streets in Europe. Pass the Cais do Sodré area, a hub of maritime activities since the 15th century and now the ferry terminal for the cacilheiros boats that connect Lisbon and Cacilhas. Cycle alongside the River Tagus to the Torre Belém, and feast your eyes on the 25th of April Bridge, a symbol of the 25th of April Revolution that put an end to 41 years of dictatorship. Continue past the former thermoelectric plant that is now home to the Electricity Museum, and admire one of the best examples of Industrial architecture in Lisbon. Next, go to the Monument of the Discoveries built in 1940 for the Exhibition of the Portuguese World. Admire the depictions of Portugal’s “Age of Discoveries,” before looking at the 16th-century fortifications of the Torre Belém, part of a defensive system that protected Lisbon from pirates.
